The past 5 weeks the water
has told me its story. Slowly the
fish have pushed deeper and
the presentation goes from fast
to patient. Winter is locked in
and the pace of the lure as well
as location becomes all the
more important. Fish in the
winter dont want to move far so
casting to premium spots is a
must. If you dont drop it on em,
working your bait slowly is key.
A lot of the fish I've been
catching have been hitting on
the drop. I knew this week I
would need to slow things down
to get bit so I took off all the
weight and let a slow sink work
for me. It did work and the
fishing was good when I made
the right cast.

Finesse works in the cold
months and I've found being
good with the light plastics in
deep water is a skill one
must have. Sensing subtle
strikes or differences in your
lines reaction can be an
indicator of a bass hitting.
Distractions while working
this slowly, this deep are
killers in your presentation. I
try to really focus in on the
drop and working past good
cover/over good structure.
Not sure if the water will get
any colder but the pattern
should hold right into spring.
Then, once the water level
comes up, it's going to get
silly. Success during these
months really add
confidence during the peak
seasons.
